Edwardiana

Hidden Dreams Solo Collection
by Emma Bossons

The first design to put the name of Emma Bossons before Moorcroft collectors was Victoriana, the Collectors' Club piece for 1998. Using the same shape, flowers and colors, Edwardiana shows just how much Emma has matured as a designer during the intervening years. Delicate chrysanthemums, scotch roses & winter aconites still hold center stage, but on Edwardiana, they curl and sweep their way around the contours of the vase in a display of joyous movement & color. In contrast, the flowers on Victoriana wrapped themselves tightly around the vase to produce a design which was more formal & cautious. Victoriana achieved a cult status as one of the most successful Collectors' Club pieces ever made.

Hidden Dreams Collection

To be asked to produce a solo collection is an awe-inspiring task for a Moorcroft designer. No help is given on the choice of subject matter. No special privileges are offered or expected. The designer is literally alone, moving in and out of the Moorcroft works for months on end like a lonely shadow. Failure to delivery, or to match the hopes of colleagues, collectors & retailers alike is something that a designer would prefer not to contemplate, yet with her Hidden Dreams collection, Emma has triumphed. Each design is self-contained, but the consummate art of the designer herself has ensured that all come together in one glorious crescendo of quality. Art can never come made to measure, but occasionally even Moorcroft can surprise itself at the level of excellence a designer can attain.
