The
Pierowall Pennanular
This design is based on an 8th century pennanular brooch found in a Norse grave at Pierowall on the island of Westray in Orkney. Decorated with interlace, an intertwining pattern of cords. Interlace was part of the repertoire of Irish & British art in the 6th, 7th, & 8th centuries; it adorns metalwork, sculptured stone & the great illuminated Gospel Books of Durrow, Lindisfarne & Kells.
