Copper wheel engraving dates back to Roman times and is different from other methods of engraving as it is a three dimensional art, the engraver treating the subject as though it were a sculpture.

Using copper discs fitted into a lathe, the engraver moves the glass against the spinning disc. By changing the angle and the pressure, cuts of varying shape are made that build up to form the final image. The discs vary in size and shape from the size of a pin head up to 4" in diameter. Engraving wheels may be of a variety of materials, but Copper produces the most delicate detail.

Shown at right is the extraordinary Forget-Me-Not champagne flute. A delicate & elegant design on full lead crystal. The detail is difficult to capture in a photograph, but we've done our best.
